Our Tacamajaca Resin Incense is handcrafted in Venezuela using the fragrant resin of the Tacamajaca tree, Protium heptaphyllum, a member of the Burseraceae family of aromatic resin-producing trees, known locally as Tacamajaca or Tacamajaco.
Difficult to find outside its region of origin, Tacamajaca is considered a rarity among traditional sacred incenses. Its rich resinous aroma, fascinating history and connection to southeastern Venezuela make it unlike the more commonly encountered resins and incenses available today.
Each package contains five substantial incense sticks, handmade in small batches. Each stick can be extinguished and enjoyed again across multiple sittings.
From La Gran Sabana, Venezuela
This Tacamajaca incense comes from La Gran Sabana in Bolívar State, southeastern Venezuela; an extraordinary landscape of tropical forests, rivers, waterfalls, vast savannas and ancient tepuis.
The tree produces a fragrant oleoresin with a distinctive deep, balsamic and resinous character. When burned, the resin releases the powerful aromatic smoke for which Tacamajaca has traditionally been treasured.
Unlike frankincense, myrrh, Palo Santo and other aromatic materials that have become widely available internationally, genuine Venezuelan Tacamajaca remains difficult to find outside its region of origin.

The Story of Paulista & Isabel
Behind this rare incense is a story particularly meaningful to The Shaman Store.
The original creator of this Tacamajaca incense was a Brazilian man known as Paulista, a garimpeiro; a Brazilian prospector and adventurer; whose journey eventually brought him to Venezuela.
There, Paulista found much more than an extraordinary landscape. He fell in love with Venezuela, and he fell in love with Isabel, the woman who would become his wife.
Living among the natural beauty of the region, Paulista developed this distinctive incense using the aromatic resin of the native Tacamajaca tree.
We had the privilege of personally knowing Paulista, making our connection to this incense much more than simply that of a store and a product.
After Paulista passed away, Isabel continued making the Tacamajaca incense, preserving the preparation and craftsmanship her husband had created.
Today, every package carries a small piece of their story; a Brazilian adventurer who made Venezuela his home, the woman he loved, and a rare aromatic resin from the remarkable landscape that became part of their life together.

How to Burn
Light the tip and allow it to catch briefly. Gently extinguish the flame and allow the incense to smolder, releasing its aromatic smoke.
Always place it in an appropriate heat-resistant incense holder on a stable, nonflammable surface.
